What an amazing picture: it looks so contemporary! Fire has certaintly been a profound element in the ecology of the whole country (vide “Forgotten Fires” by Omer Stewart). I pity those who build in fire-dependent ecosystems not realizing they must take drastic measure to protect their belongings (and lives).
